Image: The image shows a bespectacled East Asian woman with messy, medium-length hair. She is looking away from the camera, showing off her multicolored hat in shades of orange and green. The texture of the hat features slipped stitches in a cross-shaped motif that resemble little sproutlings.

Sproutling Hat

The Sprouting Hat is my contribution to Radicle Thread’s 1-year anniversary celebrations! Radicle Threads is an independently published print and online magazine with a main focus on crafting, food, creative writing, and arts. Radicle Threads shares my belief that BBIMP (Black Brown Indigenous and Melanated) stories are worth telling and sharing. As an immigrant woman of color, their mission statement resonates deeply with me, and I am extremely privileged to have been approached for their birthday project!

Utilizing one skein of Naima Bond's fingering weight yarn, the Sproutling Hat works great with any highly-variegated, tonal, speckled, or even solid yarn.

This pattern is written for one size, but instructions are provided on how to modify it to your liking.

DETAILS
Sizes: One size, but the pattern may easily be modified by adding or subtracting sections.

Yarn: 1 color of fingering weight yarn, approximately 220 yards.
Recommended Yarn: Sample is knit in Naima Bond’s Radicle Threads Birthday colorway.

If using stash yarns, please consider the fiber content and ply of your yarns.

This pattern is designed to suit a wide variety of yarns, whether it be hand-spun or big box acrylic. It all depends on your personal preference and what you envision for the finished project!

Needles: Circular needles in US 1 (2.25mm) and US 3 (3.25mm)

Gauge: Gauge is not critical, but should approximate to 24 stitches and 32 rows after blocking for 4 inches squared in stockinette stitch.

Currently the pattern is exclusively available through Radicle Threads! In the future, the pattern may become available through my website.

Pay What You Choose: Financial accessibility is an important foundation of my design ethos. The prices for paid patterns are such that I am adequately compensated for a hopefully-sustainable design career. However, if you need, the following codes are available:
